AFREC's Policy Brief: Natural Gas in the African Energy Landscape

Gas processing plant

This policy brief is developed by the Africa Energy Commission (AFREC) to analyze and explore the continent's natural gas landscape. The report throws more light on the significance of natural gas in economic growth on the continent through power generation and export revenue.

While the demand for gas increases significantly for countries that use it for final consumption, the benefits of this important fuel is not experienced across all the countries on the continent as more than half of African countries lack access to natural gas due to inadequate infrastructure among others.

The report therefore makes some policy recommendations on how to bridge this gap to ensure that more African countries can get access to natural gas across the continent.
